This page obviously will have to start with the main reason I created this web site.  Simon, my very treasured Congo African Grey.  I got him early in 2003, he was almost 2 years old.  Sandee & Tony were his previous owners and needed to find a new home for Simon. They were both broken-hearted to have to part with Simon.  Via Barbi from Barbi's Bird House on Bainbridge Island, Simon and I met and it was an instantaneous connection.

Simon said a ton of words when we got him and his vocabulary grows everyday.  He bosses the dog and cat around-"sit down","go potty"  as well as the other birds - tells them to be quiet and to shut-up.  Calls each of my kids, even tells my son to get his water.  He sings Happy Birthday and makes the music to Ed, Ed, & Eddy show from Nickelodeon.

This is my Scarlet Macaw "Liberty".  Liberty hatched on the 4th of July, 2004.  He was DNA'd a male and is just the apple of my eye.  I never dreamed such a spectacular beauty would love me as much as I love him.  I've had Liberty since he was 3 weeks old.  We hand-raised Liberty and he is such a sweetheart.  Hi already is quite the talker.

Pictured also with Liberty is Tiki - Tiki is a Blue & Gold Macaw and hatched on October 15, 2004.  Tiki is DNA'd a female and is very bonded with Liberty. We've had Tiki since 10 days of age and also hand-fed her. Tiki and Liberty are always in competition for whoever's attention.  They play together well, but each have their own cage - sometimes they just need that alone time.  They are truly an awesome sight to see together.

Max, a blue-crown Conure - came to live with us early September 2005.  His previous owner Jan misses him dearly I know, but as is very clear in the pictures, Max is having a blast here and being spoiled rotten.  He loves this real cool play gym from Wing Nuts.  As you can see in the picture on the right, Max loves to dance.  He regularly be-bops to all kinds of music.  Max is quite the love bug and loves to snuggle and have his head scratched as well as underneath his wings.  Jan - thank you for this wonderful bird.  He is a true delight to have in the house, and he loves flirting and talking with all the other conures in the house - even if it's between many doors.

This is Satari - Satari is an Umbrella Cockatoo, placed here so I could find a home that would love him and spend more time with him than his previous owners had to give.  In the past Cockatoos just haven't done well in my home and have not been happy.  Satari is the exception- he is happy here as you can see in the pictures.  He came to us plucked and now he is in perfect feather.  He is the quietest U2 I have ever known, he has his moments - but he just wants to snuggle most of the time.  He's taught me how to trust a cockatoo again.

Not a great picture...but this is Borkie, she is a Bourke's Parakeet and a real sweetie.  She is a handicapped birds as she was born with 2 clubbed feet.  So she has a special cage build just for her and she hops around and flies when needed.  She loves to look out the window every day and watch all the other birds.

Cruise is a wonderful Peach-front Conure.  According to his band it appears he was imported into the US and the vet said he has been used as a breeder for way too long.  So now he has a forever home here where he will be spoiled with lots of love.

Jelly Bean is a Green-rump Parrotlet.  When we got Jelly Bean several years ago she was very malnourished.  At some point in time she had broken her wing and no one took her for treatment.  Her beak was way overgrown as is typical with Green-rumps but nothing was being done about it.  I contacted Sandee Molenda at the Parrotlet Ranch, a leading expert in Parrotlets in the US - and she advised me to feed her bee pollen as well as Lory nectar.  It did the trick, we keep it in her diet so she doesn't have any more problems.  She is just the sweetest, loves to sit on your shoulder and if you are reading the newspaper she will come and attack it.  She hates plastic and paper and peeps really loud until it is removed from her sight.

Murphy is a White-capped Pionus.  She is a love-bug and just loves to have her head scratched.  Murphy does not speak, but makes several small peeps and squeaks.  She is totally infatuated with her cage neighbor Max (below).  Murphy is funny to watch eat, she totally enjoys most all of her foods.  She sits there and contentedly peeps as she munches away.

This is Maximus - Max for short.  He is a Maximilian's Pionus and a rescue bird.  Max has a deformed foot, unsure if it is hereditary or if he got his foot stuck in his band.  He also was imported into the US.  Apparently he was used as a breeder despite his deformity.  Max's cage sits next to his sweetheart Murphy - He is protective of her even though they aren't in the same cage.  They will both also have a forever home here, side by side - but never together.  Sad in a way, but the responsible thing to do.

Horton is a blue Indian Ringneck.  Horton hatched on 4/6/04.  He is such a sweetie,   Horton is quite an avid eater.  I don't think there has been a single food item that Horton did not eat - he loves all his foods.  Horton is also quite the talker.  His vocabulary grows every day.  Each night he says good night to each bird around him.  He's too funny

Beamer is a sweet little rescue we took in.  He is a Mitred Conure and according to the vet, he's pretty old.  He has a tumor up inside his beak that causes him to strain to breathe whenever he gets to worked up or scared.  He adores my 17 yr old daughter and does well with her one on one.  I think these two were a match made up above.  He is good for her (you know those teen-age years :-) ) and she is so good with Beamer.  I truly believe there is a reason these birds come into our lives and it's our job to love and provide for them all we can

Opus is a Hahn's Macaw - quite a character in a tiny little package.  Opus is just a funny bird to have around.  He coughs, barks - even says "mmmmmm, coffee"  I certainly hope his previous owner did not give him coffee.  He also can tell the temperature of whatever you're drinking, if he tries to sip something warm -he'll say "hot".  My favorite thing he says is "ba ba ba bye"  Opus and Max (the blue crown) love to chat between the bars.

This is Baby, she is a green Indian Ringneck.  There is Horton chasing her.  He is in love with Baby unfortunately the feeling is not mutual. She prefers to be shredding anything and everything she can find.  She loves to be scratched under her beak and on top her head.  She is just a sweetie.

Tino is a Congo African Grey.  I got him at 2 weeks of age in Feb 2005.  I named him originally Valentine, then we found out she was a HE so he is now Valentino, Tino for short.  He is learning to say all sorts of phrases.  His favorite thing to do is to hoot like an owl, not sure where he picked that up - but he's non-stop.  Scares the dickens out of us in the middle of the night.....ha ha ha.

Pepe is a Gold-Cap Conure and hates me with a passion.  However, he loves my husband dearly and that's all that matters.  He makes great efforts to keep me away from hubby dear to the extent of charging me out of the blue.  He is quite the stinker.

Blaze is a Sun Conure and came to us in the summer of 2005.  He is a sweet heart and sits next to his new friend that just came to us in Jan 2006 - Precious, see below.

Blaze seemed unhappy until Precious came, now he is totally smitten with her.

Precious joined our flock in Jan 2006.  Her mom Kellie wasn't able to spend enough time with Precious so she asked us to take her in and love her a ton.  This wasn't an easy decision for Kellie, but a very responsible one.  She is very loved here and loves to play with Blaze.  But she still likes to be cuddled and snuggled with.  Precious is such a joy to have.

This cutie pie is Ben.  He is a Blue-crown Conure and just a funny little character.  His mom Carol, gave him to us to find him a mate.  So far we have not found one yet but Benny is anxiously awaiting.  His favorite toy is anything with a bell.  His favorite word is Hello -He will sit there and say "hello, hello, hello" over and over again.  He is so cute.

Pono is a sweet little Senegal.  He is "The Master Shredder" as he will devour any shredding toy within minutes.  Pono came to us from a young family with small children and he was becoming very bitey, so they asked us if we would take Pono in and love him for life.  As you can see from the many birds- that's not hard for us tp do.  We just love them all.

Lilly is another Umbrella Cockatoo that came to us from a lady that could no longer keep her.  Lilly is a loving little bird and very quiet for an Umbrella.  She loves to snuggle and just be loved.  She has a quiet little alien-like voice that is so funny to hear.  But she certainly will talk your ear off if you give her the chance.  She just babbles and babbles and maybe only 1% is coherent enough to understand.

Holly is another little Gold-cap Conure.  She came to us from Deb and Diana.  There living situation changed and could no longer keep her as well as devote the time to her that she needed.  Holly is a funny little bird and she loves to bathe in a sink of shallow water with the water running softly.  She opens her wings wide and scoots around quacking like a duck.  It is so funny to watch.  Holly also gives wonderful kisses but usually only for treats, she will even force a kiss on you and then go get the treat herself.  She is one very smart bird.

Doc is a Mitred Conure.  He came to us from Cate.  Doc had recently lost his fellow mitred pal Chewy and was really mourning his loss.  Cate sent him here so that maybe he would have a friend in Beamer.  I am happy to report that Beamer and Doc are hitting it off well.  They are both males so they can never pair up but so long as they are happy with each other and can be pals - that is all that is necessary.
Bottom line goal when we take in any bird that is no longer wanted or able to be cared for adequately is that the bird be happy here.  If the bird does not seem happy or content here then it then becomes our job to find a home here they are happy and successfully rehome the bird.  That is not an easy task and not one we take lightly.  If you have a bird you can no longer care for please let us know and if we can't take him/her in, we can help you find a wonderful home for your bird.  I have lots of sources to aid in that goal.

As you can see, my love of birds is endless.  I will always take in a rescue and if I can't keep it I will find a home where I know it will stay and be well cared for.  Each one of these guys gets individual attention on a daily basis.  They are spoiled with all kinds of nutritious treats and loved to no end.  If we are going to keep these sweet creatures, we owe them the promise that we will love and care for them as well as provide for them during our lifetime and beyond.
